Im Gegensatz zu den `F33f`_`[Cosmiden`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Cosmid]`_`f erlauben künstliche Chromosomen eine `F33f`_`[Klonierung`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Klonierung]`_`f von größeren `F33f`_`[Genomabschnitten`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Genom]`_`f. PAC dient als `F33f`_`[Vektor`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Vektor_(Gentechnik)]`_`f und ist stabiler als das `F33f`_`[YAC`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Yeast_Artificial_Chromosome]`_`f.

Das erste PAC wurde von Ioannou (siehe Literatur) durch eine Kombination des P1-Vektors und des F-Faktor-Systems entwickelt und kann für `F33f`_`[Insertionen`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Insertion_(Genetik)]`_`f von `F33f`_`[Genomabschnitten`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Genom]`_`f mit Längen zwischen 100 und 300 `F33f`_`[kbp`:/page/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_de_all_nopic_2026-01.zim|entry_path=Basenpaar]`_`f eingesetzt werden.
